Ca urmare a cererii nr. 821/02.12.2003, către DCCPCN Alba şi a adresei nr .34/16.01.2004 înaintată MNUAI, în perioada 31.03.2004-02.04.2004, pe baza autorizaţiei de săpătură nr. 29/2004 şi a contractului de cercetare nr. 343/23.03.2004 a fost executată săpătură arheologică în vederea descărcării de sarcină istorică a terenului pe care beneficiarul intenţionează să-şi construiască obiectivul "extindere locuinţă".
Terenul în cauză este situat în zona de central-sudică a oraşului roman colonia Aurelia Apulensis. A fost trasată o suprafaţă SI de 4x3 m, orientată pe direcţia E-V. În anii '70 terenul respectiv a fost supus unor intervenţii antropice ocazionate de construirea unei pivniţe pentru instalarea unei centrale termice.
Rezultatele cercetării: 0-0,12 m, placă din beton (pavajul curţii); -0,12-0,4 m, strat de umplutură rezultat în urma sistematizării terenului cu ocazia construirii pivniţei; -0,4-1,5 m, nivel de umplutură aparţinând epocii romane (se constată distrugerea nivelului roman cu scopul recuperării materialelor de construcţii); -1,5-2,05 m, nivel ce corespunde fazelor I şi II de piatră ale oraşului roman; -2,05-2,3 m, nivel de umplutură; -2,3-2,5 m, strat ce corespunde fazei de lemn a edificiilor ridicate în perioada romană; -2,5-2,8 m, strat de pământ lutos urmat de un nivel nisipos, steril din punct de vedere arheologic.
A fost întocmită documentaţia grafică şi fotografică.

The archaeological research took place in the archeaological site of Apulum, in the central-southern area of the Roman town colonia Aurelia Apulensis on a street parallel with the national road. In the 1970’s the area under investigation suffered human interventions occasioned by the construction of a cellar necessary for the installation of a central heating system. Besides this situation noticed in the stratigraphy, the archaeological investigations have revealed the existence of a considerable layer of culture from the Roman Age. In this case too, it was noticed systematic dismantling of the Roman edifices with the aim of recycling building materials. It was identified a level belonging to the wooden stage of the settlement, followed by the stages I and II, belonging to the stone buildings.

Besides this situation noticed in the stratigraphy, the archaeological investigations revealed the existence of a considerable cultural layer from the Roman period. In this case too, we noticed systematic dismantling of the Roman buildings with the aim of recycling building materials. We identified a level belonging to the wooden phase of the settlement, followed by the phases 1 and 2, belonging to the stone buildings.
