Abstract |
In this location a rescue excavation was conducted. We excavated an E-W oriented trench that overlapped the entire area damaged by the project - 11.4 x 7.8 m; the maximum depth reached is -6 m. The trench is found about 10 m from the wall of the Aegyssus fortress. We identified two occupation levels, two of which date to the early Roman period and one to the Roman-Byzantine one. The first early Roman level is represented by a building made of stone, brick, and mortar and a tile sewerage; those were excavated in part.
The archaeological materials recovered exclusively consist of fragmentary pottery - kitchen pottery, pottery for meal serving and amphorae.
